Affordable Display Village Layout Tips

By David King

A Christmas season can never be complete without the display village. However, this is an expensive venture for many homes. Other than break the bank in an attempt to impress, there are excellent display village layout tips that will help you operate on budget while still having an excellent time for your nieces and nephews. Make it memorable though you are working on budget.

A simple white base is all you require. The base can sometimes be too expensive yet it only needs to be white and will be covered by other items. The common practice is to use mold made of Styrofoam to give it a realistic appeal. However, such options as a clean canvas will still work or the use of an ordinary table cloth. Such improvisation will serve the purpose and in the process save you a lot.

A flat terrain lacks the natural feeling. Villages are naturally hilly or come with bumpy terrain. This also allows you to change the dynamics of your presentation, making it more colorful and realistic. Put improvised objects below the canvas to raise some of the areas. They could be boxes or items that will not be used until the season is over. This third dimension will create a magnificent spectacle.

The train displayed does not have to be real. Improvisation is the theme whenever you need to work on budget. The fake smoke that is spewed all-over the village can come from numerous other options. Other than buying the Christmas train, you can go for other trains that are available in the market at a bargain. All you need is the movement and train sound.

Lighting should be simplified. It does not have to feature the multiple colors and cords that malls and institutions use. Such purchases will prove expensive for you. Use a single thread that is strategically placed on different sections of your presentation. You can use objects like the house and your canvas background to achieve desired coloration.

Add a water feature on your exhibition. You do not have to buy an actual waterfall. The trick is to cut plastic pipes that are used around the house and lay them out with paper. In fact, you can also play around with lighting below the area where the water flows to create a magical effect. A single stream is enough for an entire exhibition.

Do not be afraid to recycle as well as innovate. Items like houses, lighting, snow and the train can be used for years. In fact, recycling is a way of reducing your cost each year while still enhancing the appeal of your presentation. Recycle the items that can be useful. Once you are done with the season, do not throw them away. They will save you a lot of money in future.

Be minimalist in your decoration and you will achieve excellent results. The villages are no supposed to hold all ideas in your head. They will appear crowded and lacking of taste. Your lighting will also be a nightmare if too many objects are placed on the canvas. Exercise your creativity but do not overdo it because the results will be disastrous.
