‘Innately flexible’: Gig economy work takes off amid cost-of-living crisis

As Australians suffer from more cost-of-living pressures and a weakening economy, there is an increase of people looking at the “innately flexible” gig economy for a “second income”, says Uber’s Australia-New Zealand General Manager Dominic Taylor. His comments come as Uber campaigns to preserve the “flexibility” of gig work amid government plans to introduce changes which will set minimum pay and conditions for "employee-like" workers. “I sit down and talk to many drivers and delivery partners often and they each have their own story,” Mr Taylor told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood. “We’ve got the person who is training to become a nurse that’s doing it in their night shift, we’ve got many people that are using this as secondary income. “It’s unique for each person.”
