How to use "PENCIL" - Drawing Techniques

        start your creativity !!
Drawing techniques allow an artist to elaborate on designs using various pencil strokes.
Among other things, these variations with a pencil can create volume, light and texture.

Drawings come to life with the skills of each artist and whatever techniques they choose to use.
It's a matter of experimenting with your pencil to find the technique that you like.

You can select just one of these pencil techniques or you are free to use all of them in your artistic portfolio.
Stippling is a favorite of mine, it's so easy to implement and it can be used instead of lines.

The weed-like plant on the far right of this illustration was created by using the simple stippling effect.
An artist doesn't have to painstakingly depict everything exactly. In fact, it's a lot nicer if you insert your impression of how something appears to you. Once you do that, you have stamped your artwork with the uniqueness that is you.

Tips and techniques are used to help us develop an original style, to find that little missing piece that is exclusive to each and every one of us. All it takes is an open mind and a willingness to learn.

Of course, there are many in-depth tutorials that aren't covered here because this information is aimed at helping beginners without being overwhelmed by too much information at once.

For example, have you tried the doodle exercise to kick start your creativity?
If you are looking for something entirely different, maybe a technique like frottage will be your answer. It is fun to test all different textures and witness the results that are often nothing like we thought they would be.
Grids are used by beginner artists and experienced artists alike. It's a technique used to help images look more life-like.

See the beginner's tutorial for including light and shade in your work. It really adds a new dimension to your artwork as demonstrated in the tomato illustration on the right.

If you are having trouble creating outlines, you could try observing the negative space around your subject.
All artists-in-training need to play with lines, experimenting with pressure on the pencil and different grades of graphite to see the different effects each one produces.

The simplicity of line drawings helps to ease you into the creation of all things bright and beautiful.
Another handy approach using accentuated lines is a great introduction to shading, allowing newbies the opportunity to understand shadows without much effort.

Read the overview of how perspective works to create depth which gives the illusion of space and distance.
Drawing techniques help you make things more appealing/interesting and this in turn gives the viewer something more to study.

Be adventurous and try some or all of these methods today. Happy drawings!

Most Important Portrait Drawing Techniques For Children - Ages 9-12

What would you think if I told you that children as young as 9 years old can learn how to draw realistic portraits of people? Impossible? You may not due to age, not fully graduated from drawing animated characters, and the use of colored markers and construction paper. Yes, your child can learn to draw realistic portraits using people (five tones of the shadows, a black and white photograph of high quality 8 "x 10" plastic grid sheet acetate gridded 8 "x 10" drawing paper, and 1/2 "square of cardboard viewfinder). using these basic drawing techniques and drawing materials your child will be able to draw a realistic portrait of two hours without previous drawing class instructor, or never collect a pencil sketch and drawing paper.

Still confused? I was and am still confused today. I was a freelance art teacher who teaches the art and craft of Michael, located in Waldorf, MD on Saturday. I noticed in my area the lack of art classes for children (5-12). Most art teachers taught art in individuals ages 13 to adult. But you know who wanted to teach younger children, or that it was difficult to find a nearby art teacher would have the patience to teach young children because their attention span.

I said to myself. If a child can learn to draw animals, landscapes and animated characters using basic shapes such as (circle, line, angle, bend, and place). They can apply these shapes to draw a realistic portrait of a person. I started reading articles on the Internet and other reference materials on how children learn to read, write and draw. Then I joined my research over a six-week portrait drawing workshop for children (9-12).

I found out when a child learns to read, write and draw, everything is upside down, or right to left. In other words, read from right to left instead of left to right. Instead of pulling in the right direction in adulthood. A child will turn their photo upside down to draw, as they are looking in a mirror where everything is upside down. So I came up with a fun and creative workshop portrait drawing so by combining 10 sets of children, 5 holes 15 minutes time drawing, drawing grid lines, light and shadow or toning, upside down reverse drawing, etc.. I had to think like a child, and reverse the way I learned to draw the way a child learns to draw.

For example, the fourth week of the course, students were ready for the time of year. You say that exercises time sounding as if in military school. Not quite, exercises time allows the student to focus on the forms, expression and subject movement without using shading. The basics of this technique is to remind students to draw the object as they see it, without stopping. Students received a cartoon character drawn in five minutes, or as Mickey Mouse cartoon character. I told them not to rush because five minutes is a long time. Some students have completed the character outline in less than three minutes. If you finish before the five minutes passed, could return for two more minutes to correct their mistakes and erase unnecessary lines. Students would do this exercise by alternating between time (five to fifteen minutes of exercise) sketch drawings of six or more.

Another great exercise is to reverse drawing. Students received "x 10" 8 black and white plastic acetate "x 10" graph paper graph paper, and 8. Students were invited to put the image upside down, place the plastic grid ethyl on leaf photo. What you see now is the photo divided into (8) places (horizontal) and (10) places (vertical). The number of places on the grid acetate sheet must be the same number of squares on graph paper. Instead of focusing on the picture students now focus on the shapes and colors of the object in each square. The purpose of this exercise is for students to draw and shade in the shapes exactly how they look in each square. In other words, as the game of connecting cables or connection points. After completing the exercise, you now have a portrait of a person with the proper placement of the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and no time to make corrections spending. All portraits corrections can now be concluded by turning the right side of the paper and erase unnecessary lines and heavy shading.

You may think you need years of experience drawing to draw a realistic portrait. However, I have found that it is false. I taught students who have no experience in drawing, and others with some years of experience in drawing. Anyone with the desire can learn to draw. The three key points to consider are:

1) Patience - Go at your own pace. Do not compare yourself with other artists, or are you frustrated and want to quit.

2) Technical & Style - Everyone has their own unique style. Choose a drawing or painting medium you feel comfortable. For example, if you use oil paint, but uncomfortable to explore watercolors. Stick to oil painting.

3) Practice - I always tell my students. Practice makes perfect. Then practice again and again.

Also, nowadays this art form is liked by many youngsters. Like all other art forms, with constant and systematic practice one can become a great artist.

Listed below are few drawing tips which can help anyone improve their skill and become an artist. Reading and practicing these in your daily routine will improve your skill.

1. If you are drawing and you are right handed person, ensure that the light is from your left side. This will prevent your hand shadow falling on your paper.

2. First step when you practice drawing – you should practice drawing line, straight line, curved line, scribbled lines, and your hand should obey the command of your thoughts and visions. You should control your hand and you should be able to bring out what you want.

3. You should further develop drawing circles, oval shapes, crossed lines and bold and thick lines. Just like how a baby develops from crawling stage to walking stage, your art should also develop step by step.

4. These lines and curves are like pillars to a building. The foundation should be strong enough to have a good building; similarly these initial small lines and curves will go a long way in your career. You should also start controlling the stress on your pencil. You should be able to bring the correct darkness and thickness in the lines what you draw.

5. Initially you will not be able to draw a circle or an oval shape correctly, nevertheless don’t get discouraged. You should practice and practice until you get perfection. You should also keep all your drawings carefully from the start to know how you are improving. You could also date your sketches and preserve it for the future.
6. You should concentrate in the area where you feel you are weak. If you are not able to shade properly then learn more to do that. You can try out your own style of shading. Build your own individuality, never copy from another artist.

7. Last but not the least, use good quality materials. 4B and 6B pencils and good chart paper or note book with good quality paper should be sufficient to start with. Quality definitely matters hence never compromise on quality.
